Stocks ease on Wall Street; Capital One plunges

NEW YORK (AP) — Stocks are slipping in midday trading on Wall Street after a mixed batch of earnings reports from big U.S. companies left investors uninspired.

The Dow Jones industrial average was down 18 points at 13,578 shortly before midday Friday. The Standard & Poor's 500 index fell four points to 1,476 and the Nasdaq composite fell 16 to 3,120. Intel and Capital One Financial fell sharply after reporting earnings that disappointed the market. Intel fell 7 percent, Capital One 8 percent. Morgan Stanley and General Electric rose after their results beat Wall Street's estimates.

The Dow and the S&P 500 index are still on track to post a third straight week of gains.
