Stock indexes are little changed in early trading

NEW YORK (AP) — Stock indexes are little changed in early trading on Wall Street as investors pore over a mixed bag of earnings from U.S. companies.

Avon Products, Kraft Foods and MetLife fell after their profits missed Wall Street's forecasts. Time Warner Cable and Expedia rose after beating expectations. The Dow Jones industrial average was flat at 15,619 after the first few minutes of trading Thursday.

The Standard & Poor's 500 index was up two points, or 0.1 percent, at 1,765. The Nasdaq composite was up a point at 3,932. The yield on the 10-year Treasury note edged down to 2.53 percent from 2.54 percent.

The S&P 500 index is on track to have its best month since July. It's up nearly 5 percent for October.
