MADRID (AP) — Spanish airline Iberia says 415 flights will be canceled next week due to a strike by labor unions protesting a company plan to lay off almost a fifth of its workforce.
Iberia said Thursday a government decree on minimum services guaranteed 90 percent of long-haul flights, 61 percent of medium-haul and 46 percent of domestic flights during the strike. Unions representing most Iberia workers, but not pilots, have called strikes between Feb. 18-22, March 4-8 and March 18-22.
Iberia, Lineas Aereas de Espana S.A., said this week it was laying off 3,800 workers, claiming economic difficulties obliged it to take drastic action. Iberia is linked with British Airways in International Airlines Group.
