LONDON (AP) — A court has ruled that the U.K. government didn't act unlawfully when it refused to fund a British woman's appeal against a death sentence in Indonesia.
Lindsay June Sandiford was found guilty last week by a court in Bali for smuggling cocaine worth $2.5 million in her suitcase onto the resort island. Lawyers for the 56-year-old grandmother had said that she had no legal assistance and that her family has run out of resources. They argued that the British government has a duty to protect the human rights of its citizens and fund a lawyer to represent her.
On Thursday, two judges at London's High Court dismissed the case, saying an appeal had "no reasonable prospect of success."
