Report: Turkish jets strike rebel targets in Iraq

ANKARA, Turkey (AP) — A news agency says Turkish jets have pounded suspected Kurdish rebel targets in a cross-border raid in northern Iraq.

Turkey's private Dogan news agency said Thursday that eight F-16 fighter jets struck 12 Kurdistan Workers' Party, or PKK, targets on Mount Qandil near the Iraqi-Iranian border. It didn't report any casualties in late Wednesday's operation which lasted some two hours.

There was no official confirmation of the raid, which was also reported by Firat News, a website close to the rebels. Turkey has frequently attacked targets of the autonomy-seeking PKK in northern Iraq.

The operation came despite ongoing peace talks between Turkey and the rebels' imprisoned leader to end the conflict which has killed tens of thousands since 1984.
