Pietersen handed central contract by England

LONDON (AP) — Kevin Pietersen has been handed a full central contract by England, completing his integration back into the squad after his rift with team management last year.

The controversial batsman was dropped during last summer's test series against South Africa for sending provocative phone messages to Proteas players about England teammate and then-test captain Andrew Strauss.

After patching up relations with the England and Wales Cricket Board, Pietersen was recalled to the team for the tour of India on a short-term deal that was set to expire at the end of January. However, the ECB said on Wednesday that he had been given a full contract to Sept. 30, ending any uncertainty over his immediate future.
