BRISTOL, England (AP) — Former England and Scotland head coach Andy Robinson has been appointed director of rugby at English second-tier club Bristol.
The 48-year-old had been with Scotland for three years before resigning in November following a series of poor performances. Robinson, who will take over at the Championship club on March 1, said "the immediate objective is to achieve promotion" back to the Premiership "as soon as possible".
Bristol chairman Chris Booy said the appointment of the former Bath and England flanker "shows that we are serious." Robinson, who coached England from 2004 to 2006, said he looked forward "to building a squad with a blend of experience and young, home-grown talent, to play an exciting and winning brand of rugby."
Liam Middleton will continue as head coach.
