MERIBEL, France (AP) — Overall World Cup leader Tina Maze of Slovenia has posted the quickest time in a World Cup downhill training run.
Fresh from her successful world championships, where she won one gold and two silver medals, Maze carried her good form onto the Roc de Fer course in Meribel — which is hosting its first World Cup in 19 years.
Maze clocked 1 minute, 43.43 seconds on Thursday, making her .13 seconds quicker than Lotte Smiseth Sejersted of Norway, and .33 faster than Carolina Ruiz Castillo of Spain. World champion Marion Rolland of France was 12th best.
Maze has a massive lead of 888 points over Maria Hoefl-Riesch of Germany in the overall standings. Saturday's downhill race in Meribel is followed by a super-combined — downhill and slalom — on Sunday.
