LAUSANNE, Switzerland (AP) — The Court of Arbitration for Sport says former European 10,000-meter champion Alemitu Bekele has appealed her four-year ban for doping.
CAS says Bekele "requests the annulment of the (Turkish Athletics Federation) decision." Bekele was banned in December over abnormalities in the blood values of her biological passport. The suspension expires in February 2016, when she would be 38.
The Ethiopia-born runner has been stripped of the 2010 European title she won in Barcelona, Spain. The court says it aims to give a verdict within four months, though has yet to set an appeal hearing date.
