SOFIA, Bulgaria (AP) — Bulgarian police have detained 12 footballers and two alleged organizers of an illegal betting ring in an ongoing investigation into match-fixing.
The Interior Ministry made the announcement on Thursday. Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov said six of the detained footballers were from A division club Chernomorets Burgas, while the other six were from the B division side Neftochimik from the same city.
Despite scores of media reports about alleged match-fixing in Bulgaria, so far no one has been brought to trial.
