Everton beats Wigan 2-1 in Premier League

LIVERPOOL, England (AP) — Everton provisionally moved into the top four of the Premier League by beating Wigan 2-1 on Wednesday to extend its unbeaten run to seven matches.

With Arsenal not playing on Boxing Day, Everton rises one sport to fourth place after scoring twice in the second half to also preserve its unbeaten home run at Goodison Park this season. Everton midfielder Leon Osman found the net in the 52nd minute for his third league goal of the season, and England teammate Phil Jagielka made sure of the victory in the 77th.

Wigan pulled a goal back through Arouna Kone in the 82nd but the loss ensured it stays in the relegation zone in 18th place.
