Congo's Mbokani voted MVP in Belgium league

BRUSSELS (AP) — Congolese striker Dieumerci Mbokani has received the 2012 Golden Boot as the most valuable player in the Belgian league.

The 27-year-old forward was instrumental in leading Anderlecht to the league title last summer and into the group stage of the Champions League. This season, too, his 14 goals of 26 over the year in the league, have pushed Anderlecht into a comfortable lead heading to the playoffs.

Mbokani beat striker Jelle Vossen of Racing Genk into second place in voting. It was the second year in a row Anderlecht was awarded the Golden Boot in its ranks after Argentine forward Matias Suarez won last year.

Mbokani is away at the African Cup of Nations in South Africa.
