Atletico signs defender Insua from Sporting Lisbon

MADRID (AP) — Atletico Madrid says it has signed Argentine defender Emiliano Insua from Sporting Lisbon.

Atletico says Insua will sign a contract for this season and three more. The 24-year-old Insua has also played for Liverpool and Galatasaray. He scored six goals in 45 games for Sporting last season. The club did not release the financial details of the transfer.

Atletico is in second place in the Spanish league, eight points behind Barcelona.
