Everton close to signing Leroy Fer from FC Twente

LIVERPOOL, England (AP) — Everton is close to signing Netherlands midfielder Leroy Fer from FC Twente, boosting the English team's chances of qualifying for next season's Champions League.

Everton says it has agreed to a deal for Fer, who will travel to England to discuss personal terms and undergo a medical. The 23-year-old Fer has played twice for the Netherlands and scored 10 goals in 29 matches for Twente this season.

Everton is fifth in the Premier League — three points behind Tottenham, which occupies the fourth and final Champions League qualification place.
