Mertens gives Belgium 2-1 win over Slovakia

BRUGGE, Belgium (AP) — Substitute striker Dries Mertens gave Belgium a 2-1 victory over Slovakia in Wednesday's friendly with a last-minute goal.

The PSV Eindhoven forward took a deep pass from Tottenham's Mousa Dembele, weaved himself into a scoring position and curled the ball just inside the post with a shot from 20 meters out. It gave Belgium the edge again after Slovakia's Richard Lasik scored on his international debut in the 87th minute with a long-range shot that wrongfooted goalie Jean-Francois Gillet.

Chelsea's Eden Hazard had given Belgium the early lead from the penalty spot after a disputed handball.
