Asteras beats Giannena 2-1, stays in 2nd place

ATHENS, Greece (AP) — Laszlo Lencse scored in each half to give Asteras a 2-1 away victory over Giannena in the Greek league on Sunday.

Nikos Korovesis equalized for Giannena before Lencse struck again to keep Asteras in second place, 16 points behind leader Olympiakos. The team is also one point above PAOK, which won 4-2 over Panionios.

Panathinaikos won 2-0 against AEK Athens on Sunday to rise to fifth place with the help of Giannena's defeat. Teams that finish the regular season from second to fifth place will play in home-and-away playoffs, with the winner joining the champion in next season's Champions League.

Also Sunday, Xanthi beat host Levadiakos 4-1 to overtake it in seventh place.
