Dutch league leader PSV loses to Heerenveen

AMSTERDAM (AP) — Dutch league leader PSV Eindhoven faltered in its attempt to win its first Eredivisie title since 2008, losing 2-1 at SC Heerenveen.

PSV remained just two points clear of second-place Ajax, with Feyenoord a further point back in third. Marten de Roon opened the scoring for Marco van Basten's Heerenveen in just the eighth minute after a cross from the left by Yassine El Ghanassy.

El Ghanassy doubled the lead a half hour later when he rounded off a slick passing move involving Filip Djuricic and Alfred Finnbogason. Midfielder Kevin Strootman pulled a goal back for PSV in the 75th minute, with a shot that deflected off his teammate Ola Toivonen.

Ajax can go top Sunday if it beats PEC Zwolle. Feyenoord takes on Roda JC.
