New Czech Republic coach to get 4-year-contract

PRAGUE (AP) — The Czech football federation says the new coach of the national team will be given a four-year contract.

The association announced last month that Pavel Vrba, who led Viktoria Plzen to the lucrative Champions League twice in the last three years, will take over the team on Jan. 1. Secretary general Rudolf Repka says the federation has an option to extend Vrba's contract by another two years.

The 49-year-old Vrba replaces Michal Bilek, who resigned after failing to qualify for the 2014 World Cup. Vrba will be in action for the first time in a home friendly against Norway on March 5.
