NEW YORK (AP) — Richard Gasquet overcame a match point and 39 aces from big-serving Canadian Milos Raonic to reach his second Grand Slam quarterfinal with a 6-7 (4), 7-6 (4), 2-6, 7-6 (9), 7-5 victory Monday.
No. 8 Gasquet went into the match with a 1-15 win-loss record in Grand Slam fourth-round matches. He'll face fourth-seeded David Ferrer in the quarterfinals. No. 10-seeded Raonic's 39 aces were third most in a U.S. Open match. He had match point at 8-7 in the fourth-set tiebreaker, but Gasquet came to the net and Raonic couldn't get a passing shot by him. The match lasted 4 hours, 40 minutes on a steamy night.
Gasquet's only previous fourth-round victory in a Grand Slam came at Wimbledon in 2007.
