Works by author Doris Lessing

LONDON (AP) — When Doris Lessing won the 2007 Nobel Prize in Literature, the Swedish Academy described her as "that epicist of the female experience, who with skepticism, fire and visionary power has subjected a divided civilization to scrutiny." Here are some of her works:

— "The Grass is Singing" (1950): A tragic novel in which a white woman has an affair with a black man. — "The Golden Notebook" (1962): A groundbreaking novel that was an early inspiration to feminists.

— "The Memoirs of a Survivor" (1975): A dark novel, set in a world falling apart, which Lessing described as an attempt at autobiography. — "Under My Skin" (1994): The first volume of her autobiography describes herself as a young girl, watching her parents sitting side by side in front of their house in the Rhodesian countryside, their faces tense and full of anxiety.

—"Mara and Dann" (1999): A fable set in the distant future, thousands and thousands of years after a great ice age has destroyed civilization. — "On Cats" (2002): A book on the subtleties of feline existence.
