PARIS (AP) — The daughter of a Frenchman being held hostage in Mali says she would oppose any military operation designed to free him.
Diane Lazarevic, 24, says she's worried that such a high-risk operation by French forces would fail to free her father, Serge Lazarevic. Lazarevic told AP Television News on Tuesday that she "hopes France will favor negotiations and not force."
Her father was kidnapped along with another Frenchman in eastern Mali in November 2011. Lazarevic said she hopes that as the hostage takers become encircled by French forces advancing across Mali's northern deserts that they will finally agree to negotiate.
Speaking of the two French captives, she said: "There is little chance to get them out if special forces intervene."
