SKOPJE, Macedonia (AP) — Macedonian authorities say they are expelling a Russian from the country after he jumped over a 3-meter (10-foot) high fence surrounding the presidential residence out of curiosity.
Police spokesman Ivo Kotevski said the intruder, identified as 33-year old Denis Chervov, was being held at Skopje's center for foreigners pending his expulsion later Wednesday. Chervov, who arrived in Macedonia on vacation in June, told police he jumped over the fence out of curiosity and didn't know it was the president's home, Kotevski said.
The intruder was detained after being spotted on security cameras. He was unarmed and carrying only identification documents. President Gjorge Ivanov was not in his residence at the time.
