Irish jockey still in hospital after neck injury

CHELTENHAM, England (AP) — A doctor says Irish jockey JT McNamara fractured two vertebrae in his neck after falling from his horse at the Cheltenham Festival.

The 37-year-old McNamara was placed in a medically induced coma and airlifted to hospital after coming off Galaxy Rock in a race on Thursday. Dr. Adrian McGoldrick, senior medical officer of the Irish Turf Club, says in a statement released Friday that McNamara "is currently in theater" at hospital where he has been joined by his wife, Caroline.

McGoldrick says there will be no update on McNamara's condition until Saturday.
