Vidic hospitalized with head injury

MANCHESTER, England (AP) — Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic has been hospitalized after sustaining a sickening-looking head injury in a collision with goalkeeper David de Gea during Sunday's 1-0 win over Arsenal.

The Serbian center back was knocked to the ground after colliding with the hip of De Gea as the keeper came to punch the ball clear in the final minutes of the first half. Vidic spat out a mouthful of blood before leaving the pitch unaided and didn't return for the second half.

United manager David Moyes described the incident as "horrific-looking," adding that Vidic was "conscious, will get a scan and as far as we know he is OK." Earlier, Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny played on despite appearing to be knocked unconscious after clashing heads with United defender Phil Jones.
