Fenninger fastest in World Cup downhill training

VAL D'ISERE, France (AP) — Anna Fenninger of Austria posted the fastest time in a World Cup downhill training run on Wednesday, finishing narrowly ahead of American Julia Mancuso.

Fenninger clocked a time of 1 minute, 49.54 seconds on the Oreiller Killy course, with Mancuso .03 seconds behind and Carolina Ruiz Castillo of Spain finishing .42 behind in third spot. Defending World Cup champion Lindsey Vonn was a lowly 18th and trailed Fenninger by 1.34.

There is another downhill training run Thursday before Friday's race, where Vonn will seek to extend her perfect record of four straight wins in speed races this season. The American is third in the overall standings led by Tina Maze of Slovenia.

Maze, who has won all three giant slaloms this season, was fourth in Wednesday's run.
