SEEFELD, Austria (AP) — Eric Frenzel of Germany won a Nordic combined World Cup event Saturday for his first victory of the season and fifth overall.
Frenzel, who was sixth after the jumping discipline, finished the 10-kilometer cross country race in 25 minutes, 59.1 seconds to beat Magnus Moan of Norway by 20.4 seconds. Frenzel's German teammate Tino Edelmann came 20.8 seconds back in third.
Bernhard Gruber of Austria led after the jump but posted the 31st fastest time in the cross-country race to finish ninth. Defending World Cup champion Jason Lamy Chappuis of France finished 15th to stay top of the standings with 511 points. Second-place Moan has reduced the gap to 43 points. Frenzel is third with 374 points, and Gruber fourth with 333.
Another Nordic combined event in Seefeld is scheduled for Sunday.
