Germany's Frenzel wins Nordic combined World Cup

KLINGENTHAL, Germany (AP) — Eric Frenzel led a German sweep at a Nordic combined World Cup meet on Sunday to extend his overall lead with a fourth consecutive victory.

Frenzel was first in the ski jump and avoided any penalty laps, going on to complete the 10-kilometer cross-country race in 23 minutes, 21.1 seconds. Tino Edelmann was runnerup for the second time in two days — 23.4 seconds behind after completing one penalty lap of 150 meters.

Johannes Rydzek completed three penalty laps to finish 34.4 seconds back in third. Defending World Cup champion Jason Lamy Chappuis could only manage fifth after finishing eighth in the jump. The Frenchman tied for fourth with Austria's Wilhelm Denifl in the cross-country race, but Denifl had a better jump.

With six events remaining, Frenzel has 674 points and Lamy Chappuis 617. Norway's Magnus Moan, who finished in ninth place, is third on 559.
