British coxswain Acer Nethercott dies aged 35

LONDON (AP) — British Rowing says Acer Nethercott, a coxswain who won a silver medal at the Beijing Olympics in 2008, has died. He was 35.

Nethercott's death was announced by British Rowing on its Twitter account. The cause of death has not been revealed. Nethercott coxed Britain's men's eight to silver and also won the University Boat Race twice with Oxford, in 2003 and '05.

British Rowing says in a Twitter post "today we mourn passing of Acer Nethercott. Keen, eager (and) spirited like his name." Matthew Pinsent, a four-time Olympic gold-medalist and one of Britain's greatest ever rowers, added on Twitter that Nethercott was "out of the top drawer of GBR coxswains."
