KRASNAYA POLYANA, Russia (AP) — Dmitry Japarov teamed with Maxim Vylegzhanin to win the men's team sprint for Russia at a cross-country skiing World Cup event on Sunday.

The Russia I team dominated the 6x1.8 kilometer classic-style race from the start and finished in 24 minutes, 12.38 seconds. The Swedish duo of Teodor Petersen and Emil Joensson was second, 18.44 seconds behind. Axel Teichmann and Tobias Angerer of Germany were another 2.09 seconds back in third.

Germany was second for most of the race before Joensen rushed ahead uphill to overtake Angerer. In the women's race, the Finnish pair of Mona-Lisa Malvalehto and Anne Kylloenen won the 6x1.25-kilometer classic-style race in 17:06.9. The Russia II team of Julia Ivanova and Natalia Matveeva edged Perianne Jones and Daria Gaizova of Canada by six hundredths of a second to take second.

"I was very tired but I tried to do all I could do," said Kylloenen, who overtook Matveeva at the last uphill. The next World Cup meet is Feb. 16-17 in Davos, Switzerland.
