KRASNAYA POLYANA, Russia (AP) — World Cup leader Eric Frenzel led Germany to its second straight victory in the Nordic Combined World Cup team event on Sunday.
The German team of Manuel Faisst, Johannes Rydzek, Bjoern Kirscheisen and Frenzel won the team 4x5-kilometer race in 51 minutes, 23. 3 seconds at a cross-country course at the RusSki jumping center, where the Sochi Olympics ski jumping events will be held.
The France team of Sebastien Lacroix, Francois Braud, Maxime Laheurte and Jason Lamy Chappuis finished 2.7 seconds behind for second. The Austrian team Bernhard Gruber, Tomaz Druml, Lukas Klapffer and Wilhelm Denifl finished another 5.6 seconds behind.
Germany led after the jumping leg, followed by France and Austria. The three teams moved ahead midway through the race and were never challenged. Frenzel then dropped Chappuis with 400 meters left to clinch the victory.
Germany also won a team 2x7.5K sprint on Jan. 13 in Chaux-Neuve, France. The next Nordic Combined World Cup stop is scheduled for Feb. 9-10 in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
