Greek police disciplined over basketball clashes

ATHENS, Greece (AP) — A senior police officer in Greece has been suspended in the wake of extensive clashes at a basketball game that was interrupted for nearly an hour.

The Public Order Ministry says a police brigadier general has been suspended, a day after Panathinaikos beat Olympiakos 81-78 in the Greek Cup final. Twenty-four officers were also being investigated for potential breach of duty.

Police fired stun grenades and clashed with fans at the Hellenikon Arena. Supporters tore up seats and fired flares onto the court.
