DUBLIN (AP) — Ireland's injury woes have worsened after center Gordon D'Arcy was scratched from the rest of the Six Nations by a stress injury in his right foot.
When D'Arcy's sore foot was slow to heal after the 12-6 loss to England last weekend, scans revealed the injury was bad enough to sideline him for up to six weeks. The Irish Rugby Football Union announced the injury on Friday.
D'Arcy, who has enjoyed a world-record partnership of 49 tests in midfield with Brian O'Driscoll, is the latest first-choice player unavailable to coach Declan Kidney. He joins a long-term injury list including Paul O'Connell, Tommy Bowe, Richardt Strauss and Simon Zebo. Mike McCarthy and Jonathan Sexton will miss at least the trip to Scotland on Feb. 24. Cian Healy will miss that match and the visit by France on March 9 because of his suspension this week for stamping.
