Gomez hat trick gives Wigan 3-2 win over Reading

WIGAN, England (AP) — Jordi Gomez scored a hat trick to lead Wigan to a 3-2 victory over Reading in a battle of Premier League strugglers at the DW Stadium on Saturday.

Sean Morrison opened the scoring for the visitors, notching his first league goal in the 35th minute with a header from close range. Gomez equalized in the 58th before adding his second 10 minutes later to give the home side the lead.

But Reading benefited from Wigan goalkeeper Ali Al Habsi's own goal to get back on level terms in the 80th only for Gomez to score his third of the game in injury time from the edge of the penalty area.

Wigan, which was missing several first-choice players through injury and came into the game having lost seven of 12 league games this season, moves up to 15th in the standings with 14 points. The defeat ended Reading's four-game league unbeaten run as the Royals remain in 17th place with nine points.
