LIVERPOOL, England (AP) — Liverpool recorded only its second win in seven Premier League matches by beating Southampton 1-0 from Daniel Agger's first-half goal on Saturday.
The Denmark center back scored in the 43rd minute with a header for his first goal of the season and his fifth in 133 league appearances. It was Liverpool's third home victory of the season and back-to-back league wins at Anfield for the first time since September 2011.
But the Reds' familiar prolificacy was again apparent — having 14 shots alone in the first half — and leading scorer Luis Suarez picked up his fifth booking, ruling him out of the West Ham match next week.
Liverpool rose to 11th, seven points out of the Champions League spots. Southampton stays in the relegation zone, a point from safety.
