Newcastle has agreement with Marseille for Remy

MARSEILLE, France (AP) — Newcastle has reached an agreement in principle to sign Marseille striker Loic Remy, according to the French club.

Marseille president Vincent Labrune says "it's true we have an agreement in principle with Newcastle. We have therefore allowed Loic Remy to talk to them. For the rest, we will have to be patient." Remy has reportedly left Marseille, shortly before its Ligue 1 match at Sochaux on Sunday, to open talks with the Premier League club.

Newcastle is expected to pay Marseille around €10.5 million for the 26-year-old player, who has struggled to get back to his best after injury. Marseille teammate Joey Barton, who spent four seasons at Newcastle, wished Remy luck on Twitter, saying: "Don't worry I've told him what to expect. Great guy. Perfect club for him."
