LISBON, Portugal (AP) — Benfica won 2-1 at Braga thanks to two goals assisted by Nicolas Gaitan to remain undefeated and at the top of the Portuguese league on Saturday.
Benfica's 13th win in 16 rounds lifted it three points ahead of FC Porto before the defending champion hosts Gil Vicente on Monday. Gaitan passed for fellow Argentine Eduardo Salvio to open the scoring just five minutes in. He then set up striker Lima for what proved to be the winner in the 35th.
Substitute Joao Pedro gave Braga hope with a goal in the 77th, but Benfica held on to get the three points. Braga played the final five minutes with 10 men after Maximilian Haas was sent off with a red card.
Benfica hadn't won at third-place Braga since the 2008-09 season.
