Olympiakos beats Xanthi 2-0, extends league lead

ATHENS, Greece (AP) — Olympiakos extended its lead in the Greek league to 16 points with eight rounds left after winning 2-0 at Xanthi on Sunday.

Paulo Machado opened the scoring in the 29th minute and Rafik Djebbour found the net in the 68th to allow Olympiakos to take advantage of PAOK's scoreless draw with AEK Athens on Saturday. Asteras won 2-1 at Veria 2-1 to overtake PAOK in second place.

Also Sunday, Levadiakos and Atromitos played to a scoreless draw, and Aris beat visiting Panathinaikos 1-0 to rise out of the relegation zone.
