AMSTERDAM (AP) — Ajax beat FC Twente 2-0 in Enschede to maintain second place in the Eredivisie on Saturday, two points behind leader PSV Eindhoven.
Twente continued to struggle in its first match after Steve McClaren resigned as coach. Ajax defender Niklas Moisander was able to curl a long-range shot past goalkeeper Nikolai Michailov in the fourth minute without facing a challenge. Tobias Alderweireld headed in the second in the 35th.
PSV won 2-0 at home, though it had difficultly against lowly VVV-Venlo. After youngster Memphis Depay scored for Eindhoven in the third minute, PSV struggled to find more holes in Venlo's defense. The game was settled only in the 90th when Venlo keeper Niki Maenpaa fumbled a free kick by Mark van Bommel.
