TURIN, Italy (AP) — Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio will miss the opening month of the Serie A season because of a knee injury.
Marchisio was forced off in the 20th minute of the 4-0 victory over Lazio in the Italian Supercup on Sunday, and tests Monday revealed the extent of the injury. Juventus says Marchisio has torn a ligament in his right knee and will be out of action for "between 30 to 35 days."
The 27-year-old Marchisio will miss Juventus' games against Sampdoria, Lazio and Inter Milan as well as its opening Champions League group match. Marchisio will also miss Italy's World Cup qualifiers against Bulgaria and the Czech Republic.
