Basque Country routs Peru 6-0 in friendly

BILBAO, Spain (AP) — Aritz Aduriz and Imanol Agirretxe scored two goals each to help the Basque Country rout Peru 6-0 in a friendly on Saturday.

Aduriz, a striker for Athletic Bilbao, opened the scoring in the 12th minute and Roberto Torres doubled the hosts' lead 10 minutes later. Aduriz chipped Peru's goalkeeper for his second goal in the 40th before Agirretxe replaced him at halftime.

The Real Sociedad striker struck in the 49th and the 52nd. Markel Susaeta capped the win in the 80th. The playing of the teams' anthems was delayed until halftime apparently because of a technical problem at the new San Mames Stadium.

The Basque Country and other regions of Spain like Catalonia play friendlies but do not compete in official international competitions.
