Ajax ties Utrecht 1-1 in Dutch league

AMSTERDAM (AP) — Ajax missed a chance to move away from a pack of title contenders after drawing at FC Utrecht 1-1 in the Dutch league.

FC Twente beat FC Cambuur 3-1 to move into second place behind Ajax, while Vitesse Arnhem tied Feyenoord 1-1 in Rotterdam and dropped to third. Ajax midfielder Daley Blind — quickly becoming one of the team's key players — scored the opening goal in the 25th minute, driving in a low shot from long range.

Utrecht's Steve De Ridder broke free and equalized less than 10 minutes later. Ajax complained that one of its defenders had been held. The Amsterdam team dominated the second half but couldn't find a weakness in Utrecht's defense-oriented play.
