Wind damage to stadium postpones Lisbon derby

LISBON, Portugal (AP) — The Lisbon derby between Portuguese league leader Benfica and Sporting was postponed after heavy winds tore off pieces of the Estadio da Luz's roof on Sunday, while title rival FC Porto beat Pacos Ferreira 3-0 at home.

The highly anticipated match was postponed until Tuesday after bits of the roof fell on the pitch. The crowd of some 50,000 had already been evacuated when pieces of sheet metal were blown into the empty stands.

Porto's win left it in second place with 39 points. Benfica has 40 and Sporting has 38 before their game. Porto's Ricardo Quaresma scored a penalty in the 43rd after Jean Seri had handled the ball in the area. Striker Jackson Martinez scored in the 88th, and substitute Ricardo Pereira capped the win in injury time.
