CHICAGO (AP) — The sentencing hearing has been rescheduled for a software developer caught with more than 1,000 confidential Motorola Inc. documents before boarding a flight on a one-way ticket from Chicago to her native China.
U.S. District Judge Ruben Castillo in February found Hanjuan Jin (HAHN'-wahn JEN') guilty of taking more than 1,000 confidential documents from the Motorola office where she worked. She was stopped during a random security search at O'Hare International Airport in 2007.
Jin is now scheduled to be sentenced on Aug. 29. Prosecutors contend the secrets she carried included descriptions of a walkie-talkie type feature on Motorola cellphones that prosecutors argued would benefit the Chinese military. Jin's lawyers, however, say she merely grabbed the files to refresh her technical knowledge after a long absence from work.
