Planes and ships involved in Malaysia jet search

PERTH, Australia (AP) — An intense search for debris from the Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777 is underway 1,800 kilometers (1,118 miles) west of Perth, Australia. A list of the countries taking part and what they have sent to help the operation overseen by Australia from a military base near the southwestern city of Perth:

AUSTRALIA Four military P-3 Orion planes; one helicopter; four civilian planes; the navy supply ship HMAS Success, the frigate HMAS Toowoomba, the ADV Ocean Shield. MALAYSIA Two C-130 Hercules planes.

CHINA Two Ilyushin IL-76 planes; three helicopters; the polar supply ship Snow Dragon; the warships Kunlunshan, Haikou and Qiandaohu; the patrol ship Haixun 01. JAPAN Two military P-3 Orion planes; a coast guard jet.

NEW ZEALAND One military P-3 Orion plane; one civilian plane. UNITED STATES: Two military P-8 Poseidon planes. SOUTH KOREA: One military P-3 Orion plane; a C-130 Hercules plane.
