Workers threaten strike at WCup stadium in Brazil

SAO PAULO (AP) — Workers at a World Cup stadium in the jungle city of Manaus are threatening to go on strike to demand better conditions following the most recent death at the venue.

The strike could delay the completion of the Arena da Amazonia stadium just months before soccer's showcase tournament. A union leader says the stoppage will begin Monday to "guarantee the workers' rights."

A 55-year-old Portuguese man was killed in an accident on Friday while disassembling a crane that was used to install the stadium's roof. It's the third worker's death at the venue in less than a year.

The Arena da Amazonia is one of the five stadiums still under construction for the World Cup. Organizers say it was nearly completed when Friday's accident happened.
