SOFIA, Bulgaria (AP) — A consortium led by the operator of Munich Airport in a tie-up with asset manager Meridiam has been chosen to operate the main airport in the Bulgarian capital, Sofia. Transport Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov said Wednesday that a commission had evaluated the offers of the five bidders for a 35-year concession and that a contract will be signed with the winner within 15 days.

The other bidders included a consortium led by France's Aeroports de Paris, the local subsidiary of German airport operator Fraport AG Frankfurt Airport Services Worldwide, and Manchester Airports Group in a tie-up with China's construction firm BCEG.

According to official figures, Sofia airport has handled 7 million passengers and 22,000 tons of cargo in 2018.
