This Week: McDonald's and Microsoft results, new home sales

A look at some of the key business events and economic indicators upcoming this week: RONALD'S MAKEOVER McDonald's newly modernized stores and growth in delivery is helping boost its global sales. At the same time, the world's largest hamburger chain has been struggling with a decline in how frequently customers visit its stores. IN THE CLOUD Wall Street expects another solid quarterly report card from Microsoft. Financial analysts predict the software pioneer will report on Wednesday that its earnings and revenue increased in the July-September quarter from a year earlier. Steady growth in Microsoft's cloud computing business has helped lift the company's earnings.

EYE ON HOUSING The Commerce Department issues its September tally of new U.S. home sales Thursday. Low mortgage rates have been enticing more buyers of late. Sales of newly built homes jumped 7.1% in August to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 713,000. Economists project that the pace of sales slowed last month to just under 700,000 units.
