How major US stock indexes fared Tuesday

U.S. stocks rallied Tuesday as retailers, technology and household goods companies all made solid gains and helped the market shake off a weak start. Netflix slumped after investors were disappointed with the streaming video company's subscriber growth.

On Tuesday: The S&P 500 index climbed 11.12 points, or 0.4 percent, to 2,809.55. The Dow Jones Industrial Average picked up 55.53 points, or 0.2 percent, to 25,119.89. The Nasdaq composite advanced 49.40 points, or 0.6 percent, to 7,855.12.

The Russell 2000 index of smaller-company stocks gained 8.72 points, or 0.5 percent, to 1,687.26. For the week: The S&P 500 is up 8.24 points, or 0.3 percent. The Dow is up 100.48 points, or 0.4 percent.

The Nasdaq is up 29.14 points, or 0.4 percent. The Russell 2000 is up 0.18 points. For the year: The S&P 500 is up 135.94 points, or 5.1 percent. The Dow is up 400.67 points, or 1.6 percent. The Nasdaq is up 951.73 points, or 13.8 percent.

The Russell 2000 is up 151.75 points, or 9.9 percent.
