Zenit gets Colombian midfielder Barrios, Iran striker Azmoun

ST. PETERSBURG, Russia (AP) — Zenit St. Petersburg has signed Colombian midfielder Wilmar Barrios to replace Leandro Paredes and also brought in Iran striker Sardar Azmoun. Barrios joined from Boca Juniors late Friday after playing in last year's Copa Libertadores final against River Plate, when he was sent off in extra time. The transfer fee was not disclosed.

Returning to Russia for the first time since representing Colombia at the 2018 World Cup, Barrios says "my job is to meet expectations and adapt as quickly as I can." Azmoun arrives from fellow Russian Premier League club Rubin Kazan after reaching the semifinals of the Asian Cup with Iran.

Both Barrios and Azmoun could make their competitive debut when Zenit faces Fenerbahce in the first leg of the Europa League round of 32 on Feb. 12. Paredes has joined French league leader Paris Saint-Germain.
